Air quality dispersion model

E-mail Print PDF
Air quality model AERMOD incorporate air dispersion and scaling concepts, include treatment of both surfaces and elevated sources, and both simple and complex terrain.
Test case is finished and application to control the model running (in windows environment) is ready.
Our information system has a lot of already created procedures to incorporate into established scheduled work.
To start with simulation in some real cases we must provide complex pre-processing process, this will be one big step forward.
EPA suggests another 3 tools to accomplish that, terrain data pre-processor, meteorological data pre-processor and surface characteristics pre-processor. To create whole automated and reliable process, all this application need should be adopted in a right way. As a one of EPA state-of-the-art modelling concept AERMOD air quality model is replacement to ISC3 model.

Single source simulated pollution

E-mail Print PDF

We have started using another implementation of Gaussian plume model with incorporated source related factors and meteorological factors to estimate pollutant concentration from continuous sources. A lot of time is spent to work on reliable simulation of measured and forecasted meteorological data. This phase of the whole idea is in continuous development. The latest version of the model is in use and an unique application manager is developed so that it can start the model and wait till the simulation is finished.

Simulation example: Flare source type, into rural environment, at 0 m. height above the ground, with emission rate of 1000 g/s.

The next two tasks are to improve data visualization part and comparison methods for data obtained with measurements and from other simulations (other model outputs).
Simulations can be started for different source types, dispersion coefficient and different height of the receptor.
Adopted model is EPA approved version. For non complex cases (no more than one receptor) and with working together with other similar models, we will be capable to provide the fastest answer in case of pollution spread somewhere in our region.

Air quality modelling system

E-mail Print PDF

CALPUFF is an advanced non-steady-state air quality and meteorological modelling system. The EPA has proposed the use of CALPUFF for applications involving long-range transport, which is typically defined as transport over distances beyond 50 km. We choose this model and start to experiment in October 2007. We pas test case with success. Implementation of the model over some region and implementation of real weather conditions is in the phase of experiment. EPA standards are strong and we will follow them. For the now automation of the model run is ready and we have a lot of simulations in the archive.
Test case results slideshow:

More complex task will be to prepare procedures to work with forecasted weather conditions and different concentration of pollutants.
